China Academy of Art           

In 1928, the predecessor of the present China Academy of Art the National Academy of Art was founded as the first comprehensive art academy in China on the bank of the West Lake in Hangzhou by Mr.Cai Yuanpei, a renowned Chinese educator. Since its foundation, the name and location of the Academy have been changed several times. A large number of talented artists of varied generations celebrated at home and abroad have gathered at the Academy. Among them were Lin Fengmian, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, Liu Kaiqu, Wu Dayu, Yan Wenliang, Ni Yide, Li Keran, Li Kuchan, Ai Qing, Pang Xunqin, Xiao Chuanjiu, Dong Xiwen, Wang Shikuo, Chang Shuhong, Guan Liang, Huang Junbi, Wang Zhaowen, Luo Gongliu, Li Qun, Yan Han, Zhu Dequn, Wu Guanzhong, etc. They sowed and cultivated the field of art here, making the Academy one of the most prestigious art education academies in China.

International College China Academy of Art

The International College China Academy of Art is an essential institution in charge of foreign students programs and international artistic exchanges. It has 4 teaching studios, which offer quality courses in Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, research of Chinese culture and Chinese language. It also provides the international students with the courses of oil painting, print-making, sculpture, art history and design art. Its principal aim is to popularize the splendid Chinese cultures, to promote international artistic exchanges and our friendship with all the people in the world. The College enrolled its first group of overseas students in 1980. More than 1000 international students have been studied in the college. It has at present nearly 130 students. It also offers various short-term training courses in Chinese culture and art, where overseas students can enjoy the essence of oriental culture through both studying Chinese calligraphy and painting and going sightseeing. Every year the College holds many exchange exhibitions of domestic and foreign art and invites experts from all over the world to give lectures in the Academy. Through all the efforts in these years, the College has developed rich teaching experiences and excellent service and management. Friends from all over the world are always welcome to take up the programs.

• Spring semester: September of the preceding year to January of the same year
• Fall semester: March to June every year
• Undergraduate Program: before February 1, every year
• Master Degree Program: November, every year
• Doctoral Program: May, every year

5.) Personal photos (size 1 inch and size 2 inches, with front-face and white background, each for 2 photos)

3. Entrance Examination

1.) Applicants, who plan to apply for the degree of B.A., M.A. or Ph.D., should provide for graduation certificate of his/her finial degree, certificate of HSK (above Primary Grade Level C) and pass the entrance examination held by China Academy of Art. Applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and oversea Chinese Applicants should pass both the entrance examination held by China Academy of Art and the cultural examination.   

2.) There is no examination for advanced students and Chinese language and culture students. A certificate will be rewarded at the end of the study.

4. Enrollment and Registration

The enrollment students will get the Notification of Entrance and JW202 Form with official seals. Take the Form and the Notification to apply for visa from the Chinese Embassies or Consulates (“X” visa).

Additional Information

1.Hangzhou is only two hours from Shanghai by train or by bus. Major cities including Beijing, Xi’an, Guilin, Kunming and Hong Kong are all within easy reach by train or airplane. Hangzhou is famous for its scenic beauty. As a modern city, it is equipped with advanced public facilities, including convenient bus, train and airline systems, modern shopping centers and excellent medical services.

2.Hangzhou enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons of special beauty. The average yearly temperature is 16.2℃, with 28.6℃ in summer and 3.8℃ in winter. The frost-free period lasts 230-260 days.

3.China Academy of Art is located near to both the scenic areas and the downtown, only 50 meters to the beautiful West Lake. With the wonderful environment and all kinds of facilities for daily life, it has been regarded as the best district in Hangzhou. Post offices, banks, shopping malls, supermarkets and hospitals are all within walking distance. The new dormitory building for international students is located at the campus, which owns washing machines, a common room and a dining-hall. The accommodation cost is 29 to 76 yuan RMB per day for per person depending on room conditions.

The International college is also responsible for the enrollment of international students who wish to study the Advanced Study Programs or the Degree Programs in the other majors of China Academy of Art.
