Yan Weizhong, an undergraduate graduate from the Ceramics Art Department of the School ofCrafts, showcased his series“Untensil” at the 2024 CAA Graduation Exhibition. This series of works blends traditional Chinese ceramic techniques with the artistic elements of bronze drums.
In the early stages of creation, Yan Weizhong conducted in-depth research on ceramic art inspired by bronze drums. He meticulously analyzed the simplification of drum body design, innovations in drum surface treatment, and the refinement of patterns. He also explored the impact of material selection, form proportions, aesthetic elements, and color application on the expression of his works.
The“Untensil” series not only represents a modern interpretation of traditional craftsmanship but also offers a profound reflection and expression of the complexity and aesthetic exploration in art creation. By overcoming technical and aesthetic challenges, Yan demonstrated unique strategies for problem-solving, further enriching the content and depth of his works.
