I am Giacomo Bruni, anInternational student from Italy, and my Chinese name isJia Kemu贾客暮, which is phonetically similar to my Italian name. I am about to graduate from the School of Chinese Painting at the China Academy of Art. In 2012, I first came to China asa member of an exchange program, with very limited knowledge about the country. However, over time, I delved deeper into Chinese culture. From 2017,I began focusing on the art of Chinese landscape painting, never letting go of my brush since.

At the beginning of 2020, my wife and I co-founded Shanshui Projects (www.shanshuiprojects.net) to promote contemporary Chinese painting through magazines, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops. This project stems from our deep passion for Chinese art and our desire to share it with global viewers. Meanwhile, my travels across Europe, Africa, and Asia have broadened my understanding of nature and humanity, and have allowed me to exhibit my work in various cities. Through these works, I hope to enable people, even in urban settings, to feel the beauty of nature and resonate deeply with it.

At the 2024 graduation exhibition ofCAA, I created a Chinese painting that allows viewers to walk on it. The aim is to eliminate the barrier between the viewer and the painting, allowing both body and spirit to merge into the natural environment depicted in the work. Through this interaction, I hope the audience can find a connection with nature within the art and experience a sense of immersion.

Looking to the future, I plan to stay in China and continue my artistic endeavors. There are still many beautiful mountains and rivers in China waiting for me to explore, and much knowledge about Chinese culture for me to learn. I hope to continue my journey of research and study around the world, teaching and promoting Chinese painting, and sharing this rich cultural heritage with a global audience. Through my efforts, I aspire to introduce the unique charm of Chinese paintingto more peopleand foster a deep appreciation for its beauty.
