Dushan: A Portrait of a Mountain

Artist: Tian Zeping (School of Art Administration and Education)

Instructors: Li Tong, Dai Wenlian

Somewhere in the southwestern region of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, in the mountainous area bordering Suichang, a village sits at the foot of Mt. Jiulong. You might miss it as you make your way down Wuxi River. The village is shrouded in mist and rain and hidden behind Dushan. Dushan's sharp rising ridges remind one of a stallion leaping into the heavens. Therefore, the mountain is also called "Mt. Tianma" (Celestial Horse Mountain). As you enter the village from the northern base of the mountain, you can feel time slowing down. The villagers gather in the village square to play poker. They carry firewood as they make their way home. They share old stories with strangers from outside the village... the place has many lovely sights but where the villagers are concerned, it is their home.

Civilization

Artist: Jiang Kangjian (School of Art Administration and Education)

Instructor: Huang Jun

A dialogue between time and space as well as human civilization and the natural universe − "the gift of civilization to time and not the gift of time to civilization."

The Book Collection

Artist: Pan Jiali (School of Art Administration and Education)

Instructor: Liu Xiao

The artwork portrays two bookshelves and records the collecting history of two families. People have their preferences when it comes to reading, be it philosophy, literature, or comics, which reflect their areas of interest during a particular period or a long-standing passion. The reasons why people collect books could be different from reading, as it can be purely for collection or due to professional needs. Bookshelves are reflections of their owners. This work aims to unveil traces of their lives through the observation of their bookshelves.
