Anta Kirsti Helena Hyvoenen

Helena Hyvonen (1950) is currently a Distinguished Professor at the Chinese Academy of Art (CAA) in Hangzhou. She is Professor Emerita of Textile Design at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She was the rector and later dean of the school (2008–2014). The school awarded her an Honorary Doctor of Arts in 2019. She was one of the founders of the design consulting company Hyvönen Design Oy, which she runs together with her husband Tapani. From 2014 to 2019, she worked as an assistant professor at Chinese universities, first at GDUT Guangzhou and then at Shanghai International College of Fashion and Innovation (SCF), Donghua University, where she served as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (2015–2018). In 2016, she received the Magnolia Silver Award in recognition of her contribution to the development of the city of Shanghai. Her design office Hydestudiot Oy (1997–2006) worked with material development, colour design and trend forecasting. At the beginning of her career, Hyvönen worked as a designer and later as a design manager in the Finnish textile industry especially with woven interior textiles. Over the years, she has held several positions of trust, including Vice Chairman of the International Design Foundation (WDC12 Helsinki).
