宗旨：系统研究西方艺术史学理论和方法，力图为中国美术史的发展提供可用的参照系。译介西方艺术史学名著；探究西方艺术史发展的思想文化背景，重点研究艺术史与一般历史、艺术史与观念史的互动关系；探讨西方理论与方法运用于中国美术史研究的可行性问题，并向世界介绍中国艺术理论的优秀传统，为将中国艺术纳入世界艺术的主流而作出贡献。

Objectives:It is the task of the centre to systematically study history of the Western art and the methodology,and take it as references for the further research on the development of Chinese art.The centre translates famous works of Western art history,in order to study the cultural background of its historical development,especially the interaction of art history with general history and history of ideas;to verify the feasibility of applying Western theory to the history of Chinese art; and to introduce the fine traditions of Chinese theory to the world..
